About

My work as an educator and researcher at the University of the Arts London (UAL) is situated at the intersection of spatial, experiential, and sensory practices. In my research, I explore sensory ecologies, examining how environmental qualities can contribute to interconnectedness and wellbeing. My interest in deepening our understanding of qualitative practices brings together physical, natural, social, and cultural contexts to foster inclusive, welcoming, and sustaining environments that also engage and stimulate, making daily life more rewarding and more connected. My PhD investigated sensory interrelations between the personalisation of experience in the public realm and emotional attachment to place, and I regularly contribute to conferences and academic journals, most recently to the Uncommon Senses V conference organised by the Centre for Sensory Studies at Concordia University and to the journal Société: Revue des Sciences Humanise et Sociales.

I am a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy with leadership experience in the development and management of design programmes. I am the recipient of three UAL Outstanding Teaching Awards, and my contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate courses spans across design disciplines, including interior and spatial, service and user experience. I also develop collaborations with universities and organisations, including a project with Mużew Nazzjonali tal-Arti in Malta (Malta National Community Art Museum) and a study with Politecnico di Milano and Piazza Grace, an integrated daycare centre for people with Dementia in Milan, Italy. I am a member of the Cumulus Design for Placemaking working group and of the Space and Place research hub at London College of Communication (UAL).

Key interests: Experiential research and design, sensory ecologies, sensing, embodied experiences, atmospheres and emotionality, connectedness, placemaking, wellbeing.
